“Decodable” books follow a structured phonics program. Decodable books align to the phonics concepts that a student knows or is learning so that they are able to practice and reinforce those skills while reading.
The goal of decodable books is to be just that– to be decodable. Students shouldn’t have to rely on guessing when they are learning to read, and decodable books allow them to practice their skills within a controlled, accessible context.
Decodable books are for anyone learning to read. Our recommended decodable books are written at different levels. This ensures that there is an accessible starting point for all students, regardless of grade or reading ability.
Each new decodable book invites the student to both practice a new phonics skill and reinforce the ones they already learned.
Decodable books engage a student rather than frustrate them. LearnUp uses a structured literacy curriculum with decodable chapter books that are aligned to the program so students can practice their new reading concepts within a storybook environment.
Our proprietary, phonetically-aligned reading series were written by our Reading Director, Steve Tattum, for elementary, middle and high-school students. These books are deliberately written to reinforce the program concepts taught during the student’s tutoring session.
Books are organized into different series. Each book gradually raises the grade level and increases the reading difficulty within the scope of our program curriculum. Each new concept is introduced with a list of practice words at the beginning of the chapter.
Yes! You can use LearnUp’s decodables with any phonics program.
